THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, DISPELLED

the death of innocence,
exposed to the world.

you didnt want to see it,
you didnt want to believe it.
but how could you,
when the pictures
- vivid, alive -
shoved right in your face.

so now you know.
now you know of the repulsive truths,
how appalling all really is.

but still,
hope courses through your veins.
your little dreams,
the pieces that were once part of you.
they call out, exclaim.
they attempt to stretch, to grow.
they yearn for the unreachable,
to touch the untouchable.

isolated.

no more.

ugliness.
hideous and beastly things that claw their way to the surface.
creeping veins.
devious holes.

you have to fend -
can't trust.
can't rely.
can't think.

i scream.
i claw.
i roar.

i yearn.
i learn.

Imperfection and denial in awareness.

the unkindest cut of all @ 9:24 PM
